Guwahati: Fog and cool weather conditions will continue to affect large parts of the Northeast over the next few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
According to the IMD, dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated places across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, especially during the early morning hours. The fog may reduce visibility and affect road traffic in several areas.
The weather department reported that light rain occurred at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, while dry weather prevailed across most parts of the region. Night temperatures remained mostly normal, though Mizoram experienced slightly colder conditions.
The IMD forecast said that maximum temperatures across the Northeast may fall by two to three degrees Celsius, adding to the feeling of cold during the day. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain stable, but the overall weather will stay cool and dry.
Light rain may occur at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh over the next two days. Light to moderate snowfall is very likely in the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. However, other states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, will continue to experience dry weather.
From Day 3 to Day 5, dry weather will dominate the region, but fog or mist may continue to form at isolated places during morning hours. The IMD said no major weather system is likely to affect the region during this period.
Cool and Foggy Mornings in Guwahati
In Guwahati and nearby areas, fog or mist is likely during the morning hours, followed by partly cloudy to clear skies later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 22°C and 23°C, while the minimum temperature may drop from around 14°C to 12°C over the week.
The IMD advised people to remain cautious while travelling in the early morning due to low visibility caused by fog. Drivers have been asked to slow down and use headlights when necessary.
