Guwahati: The Electoral Officer Wednessday issued a clear statement after some media reports claimed that people coming to Assam for work are getting their names added to the state’s voter list.

The officer said that only people who live in Assam for a long time with the intention to stay can apply to shift their voter registration from another state. They must use Form-8 for this process. Officials will check every application carefully before approving it.

The officer also said that if a person already has their name in the Assam voter list but has changed their address due to eviction or any other reason, they can also use Form-8 to move their name to the voter list of their new polling station.

The authority assured that there is no need for voters to fear that their names will be removed without any reason.

The Electoral Officer requested all citizens to cooperate with the voter list revision to help keep the records correct and updated.
