Guwahati: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has named Mira Borthakur Goswami as its candidate for the prestigious Dispur constituency in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2026.

Dispur, which falls under the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, is considered one of the most politically significant seats in the state as it houses the Assam Secretariat and key administrative offices. The contest here is expected to draw major attention.

In the last Lok Sabha election, a total of 1,68,909 votes were polled in the Dispur Assembly segment. Out of these, Mira Borthakur Goswami secured 59,631 votes against the BJP candidate. Though it was a parliamentary election, the figures indicate that she already commands a substantial support base in the constituency.

Earlier, in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, she had contested from West Guwahati as a Congress candidate. In that election, 2,29,810 votes were polled, and she secured 59,084 votes. However, she lost the contest to Ramendra Narayan Kalita.

Despite the defeat, her vote tally remained close to the 60,000 mark, showing consistent support among urban voters.

The data suggests that Mira Borthakur Goswami has maintained a steady vote bank in the Guwahati urban belt. Securing nearly 60,000 votes in two different elections reflects a loyal support base for the Congress in this region.

However, Dispur remains a challenging seat due to strong BJP presence and organisational strength. The 2026 contest is likely to revolve around urban development, infrastructure, civic issues, and governance.

Political observers believe that if the Congress is able to consolidate anti-incumbency votes and improve its booth-level strategy, the Dispur seat could witness a closely fought battle this time.

With her previous vote performance and growing political visibility, Mira Borthakur Goswami is expected to mount a serious challenge in the high-profile Dispur constituency in 2026.
