Guwahati: A Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was organised at Apna Ghar Guwahati (Intas Foundation) as part of the global observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
The programme aimed to educate patients and caregivers about breast cancer, its prevention, and the importance of early detection. The awareness session was conducted by Juri Deka, a nurse from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, Guwahati.
During her session, Deka explained the importance of spreading awareness about breast cancer among both women and men. She discussed common symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures, stressing that early diagnosis can significantly improve recovery chances.
Participants were also guided on how to perform breast self-examinations correctly and regularly to identify any unusual changes or lumps. Deka shared useful home-care tips for individuals undergoing treatment, including managing side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, and maintaining both physical and mental well-being.
The session saw active participation, with attendees asking questions and expressing gratitude for the valuable information. By the end of the programme, participants gained practical knowledge about breast cancer prevention, detection, and care.
