Guwahati: The Assam BJP has claimed that Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has secret links with the accused in the Zubeen Garg murder case. The party made this claim after the SIT filed the charge sheet in the case.
State BJP spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami made the claim through a press release from the BJP state office in Guwahati. He responded to Akhil Gogoi’s comments on social media about the charge sheet.
Goswami said Akhil Gogoi claimed during a Facebook Live that he had a copy of the charge sheet. The BJP spokesperson questioned how he got it.
He said the court allowed the SIT to give the charge sheet only to jail authorities where the seven accused are lodged. The SIT also gave one pen drive with the charge sheet to the family members of the accused who were present in court. The BJP said the SIT has not given the charge sheet to any other person.
The BJP said if Akhil Gogoi really has the charge sheet, he could have got it only from the accused or their family members. Based on this, the party claimed that Akhil Gogoi has secret contact with the accused or their families.
The BJP also accused Akhil Gogoi of trying to weaken the case. The party said he often questions the charge sheet and behaves like a lawyer for the accused. The BJP further claimed that he is trying to disturb government witnesses in the case.
The BJP said the Home Department completed the investigation quickly under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The SIT filed the charge sheet within 86 days. The party said this will help the court finish the case faster.
