Guwahati: In a proud moment for Assam’s literary world, noted writer Dipak Kumar Barkakati has been honoured with the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Award this year. The award recognises five senior writers and four young writers from across the country, and Barkakati has received the honour in the Assamese language category.
Dipak Kumar Barkakati is a well-known and respected name in Assamese literature. His thoughtful writing style and deep, meaningful literary works have earned him wide appreciation among readers. His works often reflect a blend of historical and cultural elements with a strong intellectual perspective.
It may be noted that his novel “Aishwarya” had earlier won the Assam Prakashan Parishad Literary Award in 2025. The novel portrays the 12-year journey of a Jain monk, Rishabhnath, set in the 12th century, offering a rich depiction of India’s religious and cultural traditions. Critics have praised the novel for its unique mix of historical background and spiritual thought.
Among his other notable works are “Upatyakar Para Upatyakaloi”, “Hridayaloy”, and the social novel “Dikton”, all of which have been well received by readers.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has congratulated the writer on this achievement, stating that the award is a matter of pride for Assamese language and literature and brings national recognition to the state’s literary contributions.
It is worth mentioning that in 2025, noted Assamese short story writer Papori Barman had also received the Youth Award from Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad.
Literary circles have expressed that this achievement by Dipak Kumar Barkakati has brought fresh inspiration and pride to Assamese literature.
