Guwahati: The Assam contingent delivered an impressive performance at the Youth Sports National Championship 2026 held at Eklavya Sports Stadium in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from March 22 to 24. The team competed in Table Tennis and Badminton events and won a total of seven medals.
Prof. (Dr.) Jyotirmoy Sarmah was one of the top performers from Assam. He won two silver medals in the championship. He finished runner-up in Table Tennis Singles and also secured silver in Badminton Doubles along with his partner Saket Kedia in the senior category.
In Table Tennis Men’s Singles, Manjeel Gondhia won the gold medal and became the champion. Among the young players, Dakshata Phukan Hazarika won a bronze medal in the Girls Under-14 category, while Himanish Sharma secured bronze in the Boys Under-19 category.
In the Badminton competition, Saksham Keyal won a silver medal. Abhinav Kedia also added to the medal tally by winning bronze in the Boys Under-19 category.
With these performances, Assam secured a total of seven medals in the championship.
The Youth Sports National Championship 2026 was organized by the Youth Sports Education Federation India. The federation is recognized by the Ministry of MSME and the Fit India Movement and approved by NITI Aayog, Government of India.
