Guwahati: Assam Excise Minister Atul Bora on January 21 held a review meeting with Excise Superintendents, Deputy Superintendents and Inspectors from across the state to assess the progress of departmental work in various districts and strengthen enforcement mechanisms.

A key highlight of the meeting was the formal launch of the Excise Department’s online licensing system under the Assam Excise Revenue Management System (AERMS). With this initiative, citizens can now apply for all excise-related licences online, making the process more transparent, efficient and citizen-friendly.

During the meeting, the minister stressed that illegal production and circulation of liquor pose serious risks to public health and lead to significant revenue loss for the state. He directed officials to ensure strict enforcement of excise laws and called for careful monitoring and timely action against violations. Detailed discussions were held on data analysis, identifying gaps in implementation and taking corrective measures at the district level.

Senior officials present at the meeting included Excise Department Secretaries Adil Khan and Neera Doulagupu, Commissioner Jitu Doley, along with other senior officers, who reviewed ongoing initiatives and shared updates from the field.

The launch of AERMS is expected to streamline excise administration, improve revenue management and reduce manual intervention, marking a major step towards digital governance in the Excise Department.
