Assam Cabinet Approves ₹969-Crore Investments, New Land Transfer Rules
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Dispur, approved several key decisions on Wednesday, including new industrial investments, changes in land transfer rules, and financial support for cultural programmes.
The Cabinet cleared the closure of Assam Plantation Crops Development Corporation Ltd. with financial sanction of ₹600 lakh for VRS and settlement costs. It also approved customized incentives under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA) 2019 for four major private projects with a total investment of ₹969 crore, expected to generate 2,704 jobs. These include Premier Cryogenics Limited’s ₹125-crore semiconductor-grade gas plant at Jagiroad, Jonali Construction’s ₹182.17-crore Marriott Resort and SPA project, Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture’s ₹302.65-crore hospital project, and Ambuja Neotia Hotel Ventures’ ₹360-crore hotel project.
The Cabinet further streamlined the procedure for granting permission in cases of inter-religious transfer of immovable property. Proposals will be routed through the Revenue Department and Special Branch of Assam Police to ensure checks against fraud, coercion, or threats to social harmony and national security. The same process will apply when NGOs from outside Assam seek to acquire land for education or healthcare projects, though local NGOs are exempt.
Additionally, the Cabinet decided to grant ₹25,000 each to participants of the Jhumoir Binandini programme on October 12. Chief Minister Sarma also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam for the birth centenary celebrations of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has been rescheduled to September 13–14. While the State-level celebrations will take place on September 8, the Prime Minister will join commemorations on September 13.
