Assam Cabinet Approves Key Projects for Health, Education, Land Reform, and Welfare
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, held a meeting on July 18 and approved several key decisions. The Cabinet approved a ₹357.28 crore project to build hostels and staff quarters at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. It also gave land to set up a National University for Disability Studies in Chhaygaon and waived ₹8.63 crore in land premium.
To support tea garden workers, the government will give a one-time ₹5,000 to about 7 lakh workers under a new ₹342 crore scheme. The Cabinet allowed oil companies like OIL and ONGC to buy or lease land directly from owners for exploration, making the process faster. It also approved land for private hospitals and hotels under the Advantage Assam 2.0 scheme.
In addition, the Cabinet agreed to include employees of Assam’s power departments in the state’s medical scheme. Finally, due to a drought-like situation in some districts, the Cabinet decided to treat it as a state-specific disaster and approved compensation as per SDRF norms.
