Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved the appointment of Simu Das, a member of the Indian women’s blind cricket team that won the Women’s T20 Blind World Cup, as a Physical Instructor under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.

The decision was taken during the Assam Council of Ministers meeting held at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur, chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Simu Das, a daughter of Assam, played a key role in India’s historic World Cup victory. By appointing her as a Physical Instructor, the Assam government aims to honour her achievement and inspire young athletes, especially persons with disabilities.

The Cabinet said the appointment recognises Simu Das’s dedication, discipline, and contribution to sports. It also reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting inclusive sports and providing opportunities to talented sportspersons.

The government believes that Simu Das’s journey and success will motivate youth across Assam to pursue sports with confidence and determination.

The Cabinet approved the release of ₹250 crore to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under the State-Owned Priority Development Fund (Rural) for the financial year 2025–26.

To protect biodiversity, the Cabinet approved the declaration of Kumari Beel (270 hectares) and Dhamar Beel (337 hectares) in Goalpara district as Proposed Reserved Forests under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891.

The Cabinet also approved the transfer of 607 bighas of government land at Kareng Chapori in Dhemaji district for the construction of a new CRPF Group Centre.

Under Mission Basundhara, the Cabinet approved land allotment for 308 families.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved the allotment of land required for the Ammonia-Urea Project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the project on December 21.
