Assam Assembly Elections 2026: 26 Candidates File Nominations from Five Guwahati Seats

Guwahati: Political activity intensified in Guwahati on Monday as 26 candidates filed their nomination papers from five Assembly constituencies of Kamrup Metropolitan district for the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2026.

Large groups of supporters accompanied candidates to the offices of the Returning Officers. Several candidates also organised rallies and roadshows across the city before submitting their nomination papers.

Candidates of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held a joint roadshow in Guwahati to show their strength and unity ahead of the election.

The roadshow included BJP candidates Pradyut Bordoloi (Dispur), Diplu Ranjan Sharma (New Guwahati), and Vijay Kumar Gupta (Guwahati Central) along with AGP candidate Dr. Tapan Das (Dimoria).

They were joined by Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi and BJP leader and MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya.

According to official information, a total of 26 candidates have filed nomination papers from Jalukbari, Guwahati Central, New Guwahati, Dispur and Dimoria constituencies.

Jalukbari (37 No.)

  1. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma – BJP
  2. Bidisha Neog – Indian National Congress
  3. Dipika Das – Bhumi Adhikar Party

Guwahati Central (36 No.)

  1. Vijay Kumar Gupta – BJP
  2. Kunku Choudhury – Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP)
  3. Anurupa Dekaraja – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)
  4. Prabin Jyoti Kalita – Bhumi Adhikar Party
  5. Abhijit Majumdar – All India Trinamool Congress (AITC)
  6. Bipul Debnath – All India Forward Bloc (AIFB)
  7. Achyut Kalita – Independent

New Guwahati (35 No.)

  1. Diplu Ranjan Sharma – BJP
  2. Shantanu Bora – Indian National Congress
  3. Aditya Gogoi – Aam Aadmi Party
  4. Chinmoyi Bhuyan – Gana Suraksha Party
  5. Kushal Kumar Sharma – Independent

Dispur (33 No.)

  1. Pradyut Bordoloi – BJP
  2. Meera Borthakur Goswami – Indian National Congress
  3. Ballav Patra – Aam Aadmi Party
  4. Jayanta Kumar Das – Independent
  5. Ayush Kumar Singh – Independent

Dimoria (34 No.)

  1. Dr. Tapan Das – Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)
  2. Kishore Kumar Baruah – Indian National Congress
  3. Nitul Das – Independent
  4. Bhaskarjyoti Saikia – Independent
  5. Pratibha Das – Independent
  6. Kaveri Das Teron – Independent

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 24, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 26.

The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling across Assam on April 9, and the counting of votes will take place on May 4.

With nominations completed, election campaigning in Guwahati is expected to intensify in the coming days as candidates begin reaching out to voters across the city.
