Guwahati: Gauhati University has strongly denied the recent allegations made against its administration and the Vice Chancellor, calling them baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.
In an official statement, the University said that certain print, electronic, and social media platforms have circulated unverified and unsubstantiated claims aimed at tarnishing the image of the institution and its leadership.
The statement clarified that Gauhati University functions under the Gauhati University Act, 1947, and follows strict financial and administrative procedures prescribed by the Government of Assam. All accounts are audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The University further explained that all procurement and construction activities are carried out through transparent channels such as the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Assam Tender Portal, and open e-tenders. Every expenditure is approved through a multi-layered system involving the Finance Committee, Executive Council, and University Court.
Registrar Dr. Utpal Sarma said, “The University functions with complete transparency and integrity. Every financial and administrative decision follows due diligence and is subjected to multiple levels of approval. The attempts to malign the Vice Chancellor and the University are unfortunate and appear politically motivated.”
He added that the “motivated allegations” seem to come from individuals attempting to create confusion and controversy, and that the University has already initiated legal action against those responsible for spreading defamatory content.
