Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has renewed its appeal for unity between the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the interest of regional development. ABSU president Dipen Boro said that 16 Bodo organizations, under the Union’s leadership, had urged both parties to come together, but the attempt has so far failed. While Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma and BTR Chief Pramod Boro attended the recent meeting, the BPF leadership did not respond, preventing the proposed unification.
Dipen Boro said ABSU would reassess the possibility of cooperation or unification between the two parties after the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. On the BTR Accord, he noted that several clauses had been implemented, including the extension of BTR areas and the release of ex-NDFB cadres under NIA cases. However, he expressed concern over the pending 125th Constitutional Amendment, which remains stuck in the Rajya Sabha despite repeated discussions with the Centre.
The ABSU president announced that the Union will soon launch a peaceful, non-violent movement to press for its early implementation. He further said ABSU’s support in the BTC elections would go to the party that shows the strongest commitment to fully implementing the Accord.
