Guwahati: A meeting of the Assam Cabinet was held at Lok Sewa Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Several important decisions were taken for employment, infrastructure, industry and public welfare.
Re-appointment of 57 Junior Engineers
The Cabinet approved the re-appointment of 57 Junior Engineers (Civil) under Regulation 3(f) of PWD. Their services had ended in November 2025 and they could not qualify in the recent APSC recruitment for 650 JE posts. Since these engineers have been working in the PWD department since 2019, the government said they have gained good technical experience. Their re-appointment will help retain skilled manpower in the department.
Land Allotment under Mission Basundhara
The Cabinet decided to allot land to 326 beneficiaries under Mission Basundhara.
Approval for Agriculture College in Sribhumi
Administrative approval was given for setting up the College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Sribhumi district with a cost of Rs 122.22 crore. The new college is expected to strengthen higher education in Barak Valley and provide technical support to farmers, agri-startups and rural youth.
Shipyard Project in Guwahati
The Cabinet approved customised incentives for Bharat A to Z Private Limited to set up an Integrated Shipyard and Container Shipping Line at Dharapur, Guwahati. The total investment will be Rs 475 crore. The project is expected to create around 900 direct jobs and many indirect jobs.
5-Star Hotel in Silchar
Customised incentives were also approved for Hotel Polo Towers Limited to set up a 100-room five-star hotel in Silchar with an investment of Rs 103.92 crore. The project is expected to create about 200 direct jobs and boost related sectors like transport and hospitality.
Loan from NABARD for Road Projects
The Cabinet approved raising a loan of Rs 519 crore from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for 241 road and border development projects under RIDF-XXXI. These projects will mainly benefit Sixth Schedule districts and inter-state border areas.
VAT Reduction on Aviation Fuel
The government approved reducing VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from 23.65% to 18.65% under the Assam VAT Act, 2003. This step is expected to improve air connectivity, promote tourism and boost related sectors.
MMUA Second Installment
The Cabinet decided to release the second installment of MMUA from 11 March 2026.
ASHA Express Scheme
A new scheme called ASHA Express was approved to provide scooties to 33,656 ASHA workers and 2,570 ASHA supervisors. This will improve their mobility and help them deliver health services more efficiently.
Exclusive Sessions Court
The Cabinet approved the formation of a dedicated Sessions Court under BNSS, 2023 for day-to-day trial of the case related to the demise of Zubeen Garg, considering the sensitivity of the matter.
Orunodoi Scheme Payment
The Cabinet approved disbursal of Rs 9,000 per beneficiary in March 2026 to around 39.70 lakh beneficiaries under the Orunodoi scheme. The total financial outlay will be around Rs 3,600 crore.
Government Job for Upasana Gogoi
The Cabinet also decided to provide a Grade III government job to Upasana Bokoliyal Gogoi, wife of late Rajib Sadiya.
The Cabinet decisions are aimed at boosting development, creating jobs and strengthening welfare support across Assam.
