Over 3.30 Lakh Young Voters Added to Assam’s Electoral Roll; Final List Shows 0.97% Decline

Guwahati: Following the publication of the draft electoral roll on December 27, nearly 3,30,174 young voters aged between 18 and 19 years have been added to Assam’s voter list over the past month. The number of young voters, which stood at 2,45,084 in the draft roll published on December 27, increased to 5,75,258 in the final electoral roll released on February 10.

According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam, Anurag Goel, a total of 10,63,647 names were deleted from the final electoral roll of 2026 during the Special Revision (SR) process. These deletions include deceased voters, shifted voters, and duplicate entries. The deletions were carried out after the completion of applications submitted through Form 7, he informed during a press conference held in Dispur.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,86,146 new voters have been enrolled through Form 6. Notably, 7,60,513 applications were received under Form 6, of which 1,40,908 were rejected. Similarly, out of 12,97,796 applications received under Form 7 for deletion of names, 1,90,613 applications were rejected.

The draft electoral roll published on December 27 had a total of 2,52,01,624 voters, while the final roll published on February 10 shows 2,49,58,139 voters. This marks a 0.97% decrease compared to the draft roll.

In the draft roll, 4,78,992 deceased voters were identified. Additionally, 5,23,680 shifted voters and 53,619 duplicate entries were detected. The revision process also identified 6,27,696 eligible citizens above 18 years who were not enrolled, along with 1,46,342 probable voters aged above 17 years.

During the pre-revision phase, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducted door-to-door verification, covering 100% of voters and visiting 61,03,103 households to ensure an accurate and error-free electoral roll, the CEO stated.

As per the final roll, the Assembly constituency with the highest number of voters is 51-Dalgown, with 3,15,284 electors. The lowest number of voters is in 112-Amri (ST), with 1,00,097 electors.

The highest number of polling stations is in 11-Mankachar Assembly constituency (402 polling stations), while the lowest is in 2-Datma constituency (146 polling stations).

The CEO further stated that any voter dissatisfied with the decision of the Electoral Registration Officer may file an appeal before the District Magistrate within 15 days. If necessary, a second appeal may be submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days.

As per the final electoral roll, Assam has 1,24,82,213 male voters and 1,24,75,583 female voters.

The Special Revision process for the electoral rolls of all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam was initiated as per the Election Commission of India’s directive No. 23/2025-ERS (Volume II), dated November 17, 2025. A statewide door-to-door verification drive was conducted from November 22 to December 20, 2025. The integrated draft electoral roll for SR 2026 was published on December 27, 2025, and the period for filing claims and objections was from December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026. The final electoral roll for all 126 Assembly constituencies was officially published on February 10, 2026.
