Guwahati: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young woman in Guwahati on Thursday afternoon, during the festive atmosphere of Saraswati Puja. The incident occurred at Kahilipara when a scooter collided head-on with an ambulance.
The deceased has been identified as Luna Bharadwaj (26). According to police sources, the they are travelling from Bhangagarh towards Kahilipara via the hill road when the collision took place. Due to the impact, Luna died on the spot.
Another person, Achyut Baruah, sustained serious injuries in the accident and has been admitted in critical condition to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Luna Bharadwaj hailed from Uttar Salmara in Bongaigaon district and was a student of J.B. Law College, as revealed during preliminary investigation. Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Dispur Police have taken up the investigation into the incident. No arrests have been made so far. The sudden and untimely death of the student has left the locality and academic circles in deep shock.
