Guwahati: A significant rise in new voters has been recorded in Assam’s draft electoral roll prepared under the Special Revision (SR)–2025. The most notable feature is the inclusion of 2,45,084 new voters in the 18–19 age group, reflecting growing youth participation in the democratic process.
In addition, the Election Commission has identified over six lakh potential new voters in the state who have either already attained 18 years of age or will turn 18 by January 1, 2026, but are yet to be enrolled. These eligible citizens can apply for inclusion in the voter list in the next phase.
The information was shared by Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Anurag Goel, during a press conference on Monday.
The revised draft roll also shows a significant rise in socially sensitive categories. Assam now has 2,02,863 Divyang (persons with disabilities) voters and 1,36,548 voters aged above 85 years registered in the electoral rolls.
A key demographic shift has been observed in gender-wise voter data. For the first time, female voters have outnumbered male voters in Assam.
- Female voters: 1,25,28,362
- Male voters: 1,27,92,580
This translates to 1,004 women voters for every 1,000 men, indicating improved female participation in electoral registration.
According to the draft roll, the total number of voters in Assam stands at 2,52,01,624, marking an overall increase of 1.35 percent compared to last year.
Between January 6, 2025 and December 27, 2025, a total of 7,86,841 new voters were added, while 4,47,196 names were deleted after verification.
The voter-population ratio in Assam is currently 643.
