Guwahati: Marwari Hospitals organised a fire safety and evacuation mock drill on Tuesday in collaboration with the Fire and Emergency Services and the Civil Defence Department, Government of Assam. Hospital staff from all departments actively took part in the programme, which was held inside the hospital premises.
A team from Civil Defence, Assam, led by Asst. Deputy Controller Goutam Baruah and Civil Defence Volunteer Bishal Deb, attended the drill. From Dispur Fire Station, Senior Station Officer Anup Kalita was present. Officials from Fire and Emergency Services, Government of Assam — Sub-Officer Madhurjya Borah, fireman Bhaskar Chamuah, and Emergency Rescuer Ankit Kumar Phukan — also participated.
Marwari Hospitals’ Fire Safety Officer Jayanta Saikia, Hospital Superintendent Rohit Upadhayay, Director of Medical Services Dr. J.P. Sarma, and other staff members were present throughout the exercise.
Sub-Officer Madhurjya Borah praised the drill and said,
“It was one of the best mock drills. Everyone was serious, and the drill was completed in 7 minutes, which is the expected time. We must know how to extinguish a fire and how to use a fire extinguisher.”
Fire Safety Officer Jayanta Saikia said that although a mock drill normally takes about 3 minutes, it must be done with proper safety measures. He added that this was the best drill conducted at the hospital so far.
Hospital Superintendent Rohit Upadhayay said the mock drill will help the staff not only in their professional duties but also in daily life, preparing them to handle emergencies like fire and earthquakes.
Director of Medical Services Dr. J.P. Sarma stated that this was the best mock drill in the last five years, as everyone performed with full seriousness.
The mock drill concluded with appreciation from the Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence teams, who said the performance of Marwari Hospitals’ staff was better than previous years.
