Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, met at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur on Sunday evening and approved several key decisions.
The Cabinet approved the transfer of 3,000 bighas of land from Doloo Tea Estate in Silchar to the Airports Authority of India. This land will be used to build a greenfield airport, and the decision will now help the project get approval from the Union Cabinet.
Under Mission Basundhara, the Cabinet also approved the allotment of land to 1,200 families across the state.
The government cleared the Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy, 2025, which aims to make Assam a major logistics hub in the Northeast and boost trade and transport.
In another major decision, the Cabinet approved a joint project at Assam Engineering College with Dassault Systems India Pvt. Ltd. The project will be set up on 5,000 sq. ft. at a cost of Rs. 243 crore.
– Assam Government will invest Rs. 43 crore
– Dassault Systems will invest Rs. 200 crore
The centre will offer courses in Aerospace & Defence, Automotive, and Electric Vehicles.
The Cabinet also approved compensation for 884 families whose land was acquired for the construction of the four-lane National Highway in Dima Hasao district.
A major decision was the approval for the construction of Assam’s second Sainik School at Longvaku in Karbi Anglong. The project will cost Rs. 335 crore, with 80% funded by the Ministry of Defence and 20% by the Assam Government.
The Cabinet further approved the inclusion of Assam’s History and Geography as compulsory subjects for Classes VI, VII, and VIII. This was recommended by the High-Level Committee headed by Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma for implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
