Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF), Assam, has arrested six people in connection with an organised financial fraud network allegedly operating through mule bank accounts across different parts of the country. The investigation is also examining suspected links between the network and individuals involved in Pakistan-based intelligence activities.

According to the STF, the case was registered following a complaint filed by Sonitpur Police based on intelligence inputs received from central agencies, including Gajraj Military Intelligence (MI), Tezpur.

The investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly using mule bank accounts to receive and transfer money obtained through fraudulent activities.

During the preliminary investigation, STF officials found suspicious transactions in the State Bank of India (SBI) account of Morjina Begum, a resident of Ganesh Nagar under Chandmari Police Station in Guwahati.

According to the investigation, several lakhs of rupees were deposited into her bank account between June 22 and August 5, 2026, within a period of just 47 days.

Investigators also found that the deposited money was withdrawn almost immediately after each transaction, raising suspicion about the nature of the financial activities.

Further investigation revealed the alleged involvement of two other individuals, identified as Mofizul Haque (22) and Himanshu Das (19), both residents of Bamunimaidam under Chandmari Police Station, in suspicious financial transactions linked to the bank account.

The preliminary investigation also indicated possible connections between the network and an individual suspected of involvement in Pakistan-based intelligence activities.

Based on the findings, the STF launched an operation on October 28, 2026, and arrested three accused persons.

They were identified as Morjina Begum, Mofizul Haque and Himanshu Das.

During questioning, Mofizul Haque and Himanshu Das reportedly revealed the names of several other people allegedly involved in the fraud network.

Acting on the information, the STF continued its investigation and carried out further operations.

On October 29, 2026, STF officials arrested Rakib Hussain (34) from his residence in Ganesh Nagar under Chandmari Police Station in Guwahati.

On October 30, two more accused were arrested from different locations in the city.

They were identified as, Iftar Hussain (25): Arrested from Uzan Bazar under Latasil Police Station. Arman Azuz Haque (20): Arrested from Anand Nagar under Noonmati Police Station.

During the operations, the STF seized mobile phones, laptops, electronic devices, bank passbooks, ATM cards and other documents suspected to be connected with the alleged financial fraud.

According to the preliminary findings, the organised fraud network is suspected to have been operating for nearly two years, using multiple mule bank accounts to carry out fraudulent financial transactions in different parts of the country.

Investigators have found indications that the network may have been involved in financial fraud worth several crores of rupees.

The investigation has also revealed that the suspected main conspirator was allegedly operating and controlling other members of the network from outside Assam.

With the latest arrests, the total number of accused persons arrested in the case has reached six.

Guwahati Police also assisted the Assam STF during the operations.

The STF is continuing its investigation to identify and arrest other members of the network, trace the movement of money obtained through fraudulent activities and identify additional mule bank accounts allegedly used by the group.

Investigators are also working to uncover the entire financial fraud network and establish the roles of all those involved.

At the same time, a detailed investigation is underway to examine the suspected links between the network and individuals associated with Pakistan-based intelligence activities or other anti-national elements.

The STF is also trying to establish the actual nature and extent of these suspected connections.
