Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 recorded a robust overall voter turnout of 85.96% across all 126 constituencies, with several districts reporting exceptionally high participation, particularly in Lower Assam.
Lower Assam Leads in Voting Percentage
Districts like Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, and Barpeta recorded some of the highest turnout figures in the state. Constituencies such as Gauripur (96.07%), Birsing Jarua (96.54%), Jaleshwar (96.28%), Mankachar (95.61%), and Chenga (95.33%) highlighted strong voter enthusiasm.
Other high-performing areas included Goalpara East (94.79%), Dhubri (94.61%), and Bilasipara (93.26%).
North Bank & BTC Areas Show Strong Participation
Districts under the Bodoland Territorial Region (Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri) and nearby areas like Darrang and Nalbari recorded healthy turnout, mostly ranging between 82% and 90%. Seats like Mangaldai (89.80%), Sipajhar (87.34%), and Nalbari (90.46%) stood out.
Central Assam Records Balanced Turnout
Districts including Nagaon and Morigaon saw a balanced turnout. Constituencies such as Rupahihat (94.28%), Dhing (92.55%), and Samaguri (93.47%) recorded high participation, while others remained in the mid-80% range.
Guwahati Sees Lower Urban Turnout
Urban constituencies under Kamrup (Metro) reported comparatively lower polling percentages. Dispur (75.04%), Guwahati Central (76.07%), and New Guwahati (72.37%) were among the lowest in the state, reflecting the usual urban voting trend.
Upper Assam Shows Moderate to High Voting
Districts like Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji recorded turnout largely between 78% and 85%. Key constituencies include Nazira (85.22%), Golaghat (81.37%), Dibrugarh (79.07%), and Tinsukia (78.12%).
Hill Districts Maintain Steady Participation
In hill districts like Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, turnout remained steady, mostly between 78% and 83%, with constituencies such as Diphu (78.18%), Haflong (82.48%), and Rongkhang (82.63%).
Barak Valley Registers Healthy Turnout
Districts in Barak Valley—Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi—also reported good participation. Constituencies like Karimganj North (86.08%), Patharkandi (84.85%), Hailakandi (84.27%), and Silchar (80.68%) showed encouraging voter turnout.
Overall, the district-wise data highlights a clear trend—rural and semi-urban areas recorded significantly higher turnout compared to urban centres, especially Guwahati. With such strong participation across districts, the fate of 722 candidates is now sealed, and attention turns to the counting day for final results.
