Guwahati: Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora has expressed strong confidence ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly election results, stating that the party is likely to cross double digits this time.
Speaking to the media after a key review meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Guwahati, Bora said the overall election environment this year is significantly different from previous elections, with comparatively fewer challenges in many constituencies. “The situation this time is not like 2016 or 2021. The environment is completely different,” he said.
The meeting was attended by AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, party candidates, senior leaders, and organizational members. Detailed discussions were held on reports received from various constituencies, voter sentiment, and feedback from the election campaign. The leadership also reviewed constituency-wise political situations and planned future strategies accordingly.
Based on his visits to several regions, Bora said the intensity of competition appears to have reduced this time, particularly from opposition parties. While acknowledging the presence of other parties in some constituencies, he maintained that the overall level of challenge has declined.
On alliance coordination, Bora stated that AGP has received necessary support from its allies in most constituencies. He admitted that minor differences within the party are natural when there are multiple candidates but emphasized that such issues have not affected the party’s overall strength.
Commenting on seat projections, Bora said the NDA alliance is likely to see a significant increase in seat share, possibly reaching around 90 seats. He reiterated his confidence that AGP will cross the double-digit mark. “One thing is certain—AGP will go beyond double digits,” he asserted.
Referring to his own constituency, Bokakhat, Bora claimed there is no major challenge, attributing this to development work carried out over the past 10 years. He said the positive response from the public is expected to reflect in the results.
Bora also claimed that support for AGP has increased in minority-dominated areas, calling it a positive sign for the party. While he acknowledged that results in some constituencies could be decided by narrow margins, he maintained that the overall response has been encouraging. He also hinted at positive outcomes in key constituencies like Gauripur but refrained from elaborating further.
Overall, following the review meeting, AGP leadership appeared optimistic, citing a favourable political environment, reduced challenges, and effective coordination with allies as key factors.
