Guwahati: A meeting of the Assam Cabinet was held at Lok Sewa Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, where several important decisions related to development, infrastructure and welfare were approved.
The Cabinet decided to send a proposal to the Government of India to recognise some growing urban areas of Assam as Census Towns.
The Cabinet also approved a ₹1367 crore South-East Guwahati water supply project aimed at improving drinking water facilities in the region.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved renaming of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical college to Barpeta Medical college and Hospital.
The Cabinet also decided to grant state holiday status to the traditional festival Ali-Aye-Ligang, which is celebrated by the Mising community.
Approval was also given for allotment of around 10 bighas of land at for the construction of a memorial site for renowned cultural personality Zubeen Garg.
To support landless indigenous families, the Cabinet approved distribution of land pattas to several beneficiaries. According to the decision, land pattas will be provided to 816 of beneficiary in Guwahati.
The Cabinet further approved 112 bighas of land for setting up a new Industrial Estate in Goalpara district to promote industrial growth in the area.
Another decision included approval for an investment of ₹110 crore for pipeline construction by Assam Gas Company.
In the industrial sector, the Cabinet also approved investment proposals worth around ₹24,800 crore from several companies, including cement and industrial firms, which are expected to boost employment and economic activity in the state.
The Cabinet also approved statutes and ordinances of several universities in Assam, including those in Kokrajhar, Majuli, Bongaigaon and other institutions.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved naming of a college in Biswanath district after noted freedom fighter Chabilal Upadhyaya.
