Residents of Bharalumukh Protest Tree-Cutting for Flyover Project

Guwahati: Following similar protests in Dighalipukhuri, residents of Bharalumukh have raised their voices against the government’s decision to cut down over 80 trees for a proposed flyover project aimed at easing traffic congestion at Bharalumukh’s railway gate.

Local citizens, concerned about the environmental impact, gathered with placards and slogans demanding sustainable development and alternatives to tree removal. Protestors urged the government to hold a public hearing and consider a consensus before moving forward with the project.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had assured residents near Dighalipukhuri that no trees would be felled there, with plans for a shortened flyover to spare the marked trees. The government has also committed to transplanting trees near the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow using advanced technology.
