A significant portion of Kaliabor sub-division was engulfed by floods following the sudden collapse of the Brahmaputra River embankment at Hatimura on Tuesday. The unexpected surge of water led to widespread inundation, impacting numerous families in the area.
Raijor Dal was revealed that relative of Kaliabor MLA and Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta were involved in the construction of the embankment, which was washed away by the floodwaters. The construction was reportedly carried out by Madhav Enterprise, an organization associated with Krishna Mahanta, a relative of the minister. In light of these revelations, Raijor Dal has demanded an inquiry into the construction of the embankment.
The party alleged that the construction work was substandard and called for a thorough investigation to determine any negligence or corruption involved.
Assam Cabinet Minister and Kaliabor MLA Keshab Mahanta acknowledged the incident and emphasized that the local and district administrations are actively managing the crisis. He assured that both the Nagaon district and Kaliabor sub-divisional administrations have mobilized relief efforts to support the affected families.
