Guwahati: Retired IAS officer Prabhati Thaosen has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). She had been serving as a member of the commission since June this year.
Born on November 11, 1965, Thaosen has had a distinguished administrative career, serving in various key roles, including Secretary in the Border Protection & Development Department, Tourism Department, and as State Enquiry Officer. A State Civil Service officer by background, she was inducted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2010.
The APSC chairperson post had been vacant since September following the completion of Deboraj Upadhaya’s term. The commission currently has a sanctioned strength of seven members, including the chairperson. With Thaosen’s elevation, two member posts are now vacant.
Reacting to the appointment, Assam Cabinet Minister Nandita Garlosa congratulated Thaosen and highlighted the significance of her achievement for the Dimasa community.
“Congratulations to Prabhati Thaosen on being appointed as Chairperson of the APSC. For a small community like ours — Dimasa — with less than four lakh people in Assam and a few in Dimapur, representing our tribe in such a position with her commitment towards administrative services is an example for our younger generation to strive and succeed in their goals. Her appointment is a matter of pride for our district and will inspire many,” said Garlosa.
