Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Opens for 2025–26 Tourist Season

Morigaon: The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary officially opened for gypsy tourism for the 2025–26 tourist season. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of the forest minister Chandramohan Patowary, who formally declared the Sanctuary open for Jeep Safari.

Senior officials of the Forest Department, including Vinay Gupta, IFS (PCCF & CWLW), Anurag Singh, IFS (APCCF & MD, APFBC), Sunnydeo Choudhary, IFS (CF & ED, APFBC), Rohini Ballave Saikia, IFS (DCF – Wildlife), and Alekh Saxena, IFS, were present at the event.

Distinguished guests such as Tarani Kt. Singha (Traditional King of Mayong), Apurba Deka (Social Activist), and Ram Prasad Sarkar (President, Morigaon District BJP) also attended, along with representatives from various organisations of Morigaon and Mayong.

After the ceremonial opening of the entry gate for Jeep Safari, the Minister addressed a public meeting, interacting with the local communities of Mayong and members of Eco-Development Committees (EDCs) on the implementation of community development projects under the Forest Department. The meeting began with a rendition of the iconic Pobitora Song performed by EDC members.

Renowned for its high density of the Great One-Horned Rhinoceros, Pobitora remains one of Assam’s prime ecotourism destinations, attracting nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts from across the country. This season, over 10 km of tourist routes have been repaired and opened for visitors.

The Forest Department has ensured necessary arrangements for the safety and comfort of tourists, while emphasizing ecological conservation and minimal disturbance to wildlife. Visitors have been urged to follow all guidelines and contribute to preserving Pobitora’s rich natural heritage.
