PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for ₹6,300 Crore Projects in Assam’s Darrang

Mangaldoi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, laid the foundation stone for three major infrastructure projects worth ₹6,300 crore in Mangaldoi, Darrang district on Sunday.

The projects include the construction of Darrang Medical College and Hospital at a cost of ₹570 crore, the Guwahati Ring Road Project with an investment of ₹4,530 crore, and the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River at a cost of ₹1,200 crore.

Once completed, Darrang Medical College will be Assam’s 24th medical college and will admit 100 MBBS students every year. It will also have a GNM School and a BSc Nursing College with a capacity of 40 and 60 students respectively. This project will address the healthcare and medical education needs of Darrang and nearby districts.

The 121.43 km Guwahati Ring Road will be built in three phases. The first section will connect Baihata Chariali to Sonapur via Kuruwa and Chandrapur, including the 2.9 km Kuruwa–Narengi bridge over the Brahmaputra. It will have several six-lane bridges, five more bridges, three flyovers, and three road overbridges. The second section will upgrade the existing road from Jayanagar to Jorabat to six lanes, while the third section will strengthen the Baihata–Sonapur stretch of National Highway 27. The Ring Road will serve as an alternate route around Guwahati, reducing congestion and ensuring smooth movement of vehicles, including trucks from other states.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said the projects will open a new chapter in Assam’s development. He announced that the Darrang Medical College would be completed within three years. He also said the Guwahati Ring Road and Kuruwa–Narengi bridge will connect Darrang and Morigaon districts and promote satellite towns and economic growth.

The Chief Minister added that Prime Minister Modi has gifted Assam projects worth ₹18,000 crore in Darrang and Golaghat districts and thanked him on behalf of the people of Assam. He highlighted several other upcoming projects, including the Namrup Fertilizer Plant, Tata Semiconductor Project in Jagiroad, and the Chapar Power Plant in Dhubri district.
