Guwahati: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Assam Pradesh Committee, held a workers’ meeting and joining programme in Guwahati, witnessing a significant political shift in the state. More than 300 workers, including 42 state and district-level leaders from various parties, formally joined the Trinamool Congress during the event.
Led by Assam state president Romen Chandra Borthakur, notable leaders such as Israel Nanda, Milton Kuo, Veena Daimary, Rajek Ahmed, Mrigraj Das, Ravi Dutta, Abul Kalam Azad, Sahdev Das, Ziabur Rahman Khan, Anilesh Gogoi, and Lavanya Boro pledged their allegiance to the Trinamool Congress.
Rajya Sabha MP and national leader Sushmita Dev, state chief coordinator Dulu Ahmed, and spokesperson Shyamal Hazarika were among the key figures present. West Bengal Law and Labour Minister Malay Ghatak joined the event virtually to congratulate the new members.
State president Romen Chandra Borthakur welcomed the new entrants and expressed optimism about the party’s growth in Assam, stating, “This is just the beginning. Many more leaders and workers from different parties are preparing to join the Trinamool Congress. We are confident that the party will fight for the people of Assam in the upcoming panchayat, BTR, and 2026 assembly elections.”
