Guwahati: NorthEast United FC played a 1-1 draw against Punjab FC in an Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Friday.
The match saw Alaaeddine Ajaraie score his 15th goal of the season in the 24th minute, giving NorthEast United the lead. However, Punjab FC’s Khaiminthang Lhungdim equalized in the 82nd minute, ensuring both teams shared points.
NorthEast United started strong, with Jithin MS coming close to scoring in the 13th minute. Ajaraie found the net when Punjab goalkeeper Muheet Shabir failed to stop a long-range shot, allowing the Moroccan striker to score on the rebound.
Punjab FC, despite playing with 10 men in the second half, fought back and scored late through Lhungdim. NorthEast United had chances to secure a win, especially through substitute Parthib Gogoi, but missed opportunities kept the score level.
The result leaves NorthEast United in fifth place on the ISL table with 23 points from 15 matches. They will face FC Goa at home on January 14.
