Medziphema: The Alumni Association of the School of Agricultural Sciences (AASAS), Nagaland University, celebrated its 25th Anniversary — Silver Jubilee with grandeur and nostalgia at the Multi-Purpose Hall, SAS, NU, Medziphema Campus. The event brought together alumni from various batches, faculty members, and dignitaries, commemorating 25 years of shared growth, contribution, and unity.
The celebration was graced by Mr. Mhathung Yanthan, MLA and Advisor, Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, as the Special Guest; Mr. Metsubo Jamir (1st Batch), Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, as the Chief Host; and Mr. A. Pangjung Jamir (5th Batch), Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, as the Honoured Host.
The event began with the unveiling of the Silver Jubilee Monolith by Mr. Yanthan, followed by the Alumni Flag Hoisting by Pangjung Jamir. Prof. L. Daiho, Former Dean, led the invocation, while Mr. K. Neibou Sekhose, Chairman of the Organising Committee and first President of AASAS, delivered the welcome address.
The Alumni Choir, led by Dr. Imliakum Ao and Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum, presented a soulful welcome song, setting a nostalgic tone, followed by “Reminiscence” — a sharing session by senior alumni.
Prof. Akali Sema, Secretary of the Organising Committee and first General Secretary of AASAS, presented the “Journey of AASAS”, highlighting milestones and achievements over the years. A felicitation ceremony honoured distinguished alumni, followed by the presentation of Academic Excellence Awards by Prof. L. Tongpang Longkumer (5th Batch), President of AASAS.
Formal speeches were delivered by Chief Host Metsubo Jamir, Honoured Host Marthon Sangma, and Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NU, SAS. A special number by the EU Choir, followed by the release of the Silver Jubilee Souvenir, added colour to the programme.
In his inaugural address, Special Guest Mhathung Yanthan lauded AASAS’s 25-year journey of excellence and transformation, noting that the occasion was not just a celebration of longevity but a reaffirmation of collective commitment to uplift farmers, empower youth, and promote agriculture as a dignified and respected profession. He praised the alumni for their sustained contribution to agricultural and rural development in Nagaland.
The inaugural programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Hoto Yeptho (1st Batch), Organising Committee Member and first Advisor of AASAS, while Dr. Moakala Changkiri (29th Batch) compered the session.
The afternoon segment featured a technical session chaired by Prof. Pauline Alila (5th Batch), Dean, NU, SAS, focusing on emerging agricultural challenges and innovations, followed by the AASAS General Body Meeting chaired by Prof. Longkumer, which reviewed activities and future plans.
The day culminated in a vibrant cultural evening, coordinated by Dr. Watilmongla Jamir (9th Batch), featuring performances that showcased the rich diversity and camaraderie of the SAS community.
The event also featured the presentation of Alumni Excellence Awards:
- AASASRD Academic Excellence Award (Rs. 20,000) – Miss Nivedita Kumari (9.08 OGPA)
- Peri Om Pun Excellence Award (Rs. 10,000) – Miss Neisinuo Shine Kiso (8.36 OGPA)
- R2 Seeds Excellence Award (Rs. 10,000) – Miss Wapangnaro S. Imsong (8.56 OGPA)
- Lt. Cherish Ch. Marak Excellence Award (Rs. 10,000) – Miss Aysha Parween (8.58 OGPA)
The Silver Jubilee celebration stood as a testament to 25 years of excellence, unity, and service — a proud reflection of the School of Agricultural Sciences’ enduring legacy and its contribution to the agricultural advancement of Nagaland and beyond.
