Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rainfall over several northeastern states — including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura — between October 30 and November 1.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) are expected over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on October 29–30. Persistent heavy showers are also likely in parts of the region through the week.
The weather activity has been attributed to a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal, moving west-northwest at around 8 kmph, which is expected to intensify into Cyclone Montha.
Authorities in coastal and vulnerable areas have been placed on high alert, with disaster management agencies coordinating preparedness measures.
Residents are advised to remain cautious, follow official updates, and take necessary precautions against possible heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the coming days.
