Gaurav Gogoi Says CM Trying to Break BTC Accord

Guwahati: Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi today said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is trying to break the BTC Accord for his own political benefit. He called this move “very dangerous for India’s democracy.”

Speaking to reporters during the BTC Council elections, Gogoi said the Bodo people signed the BTC Accord in 2003 after years of struggle. Many people lost their lives and thousands had to leave their homes. The accord finally brought peace to Bodoland.

Gogoi said that today, when people of all communities are living in peace, the Chief Minister’s attempt to ignore the BTC and BTR accords just for politics is wrong and against democracy.

He also said that the Chief Minister is trying to scare voters with communal and provocative speeches because Congress is doing well in many BTC constituencies. “Congress will always stand with the people of BTC and fight to protect democracy,” Gogoi said.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister told a public meeting that development in BTC will happen only if BJP gets power in the council. Gogoi said this comment shows disrespect to the Bodo Accord.
