Chalachitram’s 9th National Film Festival to Be Held on October 25 & 26

Guwahati: Chalachitram, one of Northeast India’s leading cultural initiatives and an associate organization of the Vishwa Samvad Kendra Assam, has announced that its 9th National Film Festival will be held on October 25 and 26 at Jyoti Chitraban, Kahilipara, Guwahati. The announcement was made today through a press release by Chalachitram president Nava Thakuria and secretary Bhagawat Pritam.

Since 2017, Chalachitram has been organizing this annual film festival, in sync with other major film festivals taking place across India. Like every year, this year too a short film competition will be held under the theme “Our Heritage, Our Pride.”

Organized in collaboration with the Vishwa Samvad Kendra Assam, the competition will be open exclusively to filmmakers from the Northeast region. The themes include Indian heritage, indigenous communities, freedom movement heroes, epics and mythology, national integration, art and culture, manuscripts, paintings, museums, musicians, writers, indigenous festivals, ethnic communities, monuments and heritage sites, social reform, traditional sports, women empowerment, traditions and family values, yoga and Ayurveda, cultural nationalism, tea and oil, environment, agriculture, education, human rights, and tourism potential of Northeast India.

In addition, short stories, documentaries, and animation films based on Indian culture, traditions, women, patriotism, the digital world, development, environment, and human-nature relations can also participate. Short and feature-length films aligned with the festival’s vision will also be screened.

As per the rules, only films made between November 1, 2024, and September 15, 2025, will be eligible to participate. Entries can be submitted free of cost until the deadline. Films submitted after the deadline can still participate by paying a late fee of ₹1000 before September 20, 2025.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Assam announced the formation of a full-fledged committee for Chalachitram with senior journalist Nava Thakuria as president, Prabal Khound and Dipak Dutta as vice presidents, and actor-director Bhagawat Pritam as secretary.
