16th VV Rao Memorial Lecture Held at Gauhati University

Guwahati: The 16th “VV Rao Memorial Lecture” was held at Phanidhar Dutta Hall, Gauhati University. The event, organized by V. Venkatrao Research Scholar Hostel, began with the ceremonial lighting of lanterns.

Hosted by Nilpawan Sharma and Himadri Sharma, the event’s objectives were outlined by Nitul Kalita, the Prefect of VV Rao Hostel. The lecture featured notable speakers including Mr. Dileep Chandan, Editor of Assam Bani newspaper, who served as the Chief Guest. Biplab Kumar Sharma, a former judge of the Guwahati High Court, was the keynote speaker.

Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath, Registrar of Gauhati University, and Professor Pradeep Phukan, CDC(GU), were also in attendance, alongside the hostel’s warden, Dhrubajyoti Saharia, and many university professors. Mr. Dileep Chandan emphasized the significance and societal impact of research in contemporary times. Former Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma discussed the Assam movement’s background and the significant demographic changes in Assam due to migration from neighboring regions, highlighting potential future impacts.

The event was also graced by Professor Nanigopal Mahanta of Gauhati University and Professor Dhruvajyoti Saharia, President of the Memorial Lecture. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nilamjyoti Kalita, Assistant Prefect of VV Rao Hostel.
